Jekaterina “Katya” Semjonova Graduates the LCO Internship Program

Posted by Levine Communications Office on July 29, 2010

Katya and Michael Levine

Jekaterina Semjonova, known to the Levine Communications Office staff as “Katya,” has successfully graduated the LCO Internship Program. Originating from Latvia, Katya has been living in Los Angeles for 1 year and 3 months, while interning at LCO for 3 1/2 months. She worked under Michael Levine in his office and has been kind enough to share some input and suggestions in order to get the most out of your internship.

When asked what she learned during her internship at LCO, she said that she has strengthened her organizational and planning skill both in her professional and personal life. She has been taught good discipline, proper time management, and how to grade herself in order to do better with upcoming projects. Katya states that this internship was “harder than the job I had before, which was paid! This internship prepares you for the hard business world, no matter what your career environment may be.”

Katya suggests the “LCO Internship Program to those with or without PR career paths, because this internship builds your professional skills and prepares you for the real world. Employers look at effort, and completing an unpaid internship shows dedication to better oneself in their chosen direction.”

She also went on to explain what she did in order to get the most out of what LCO had to offer her. “I took part in as many events as I could. I went to two of Michael’s Workshops, the George Carlin event at The Laugh Factory, the screening of Robert Evans, weekly staff meetings, monthly trainings, and a few more.” By taking LCO up on every opportunity presented to her, Katya was able to learn as much as possible during her time here.

She ended with saying that she, “really enjoyed working with the LCO staff, as they were helpful, welcoming, and professional.”

She wishes everyone to “Dream big and achieve goals!”

Thank you Katya for all of your time and effort here at LCO, you will be missed.

You Can’t Spell ELDEBROCK Without “Rock”

Posted by Levine Communications Office on July 21, 2010

Jay + Barrett + Del + Richard + Shawn = ELDEBROCK (And don’t forget to add in some instruments and talent into the equation)

If you haven’t heard of this band yet, start listening now because you are sure to be hearing about them a lot more in the upcoming year. LCO Client, Eldebrock,  is a group of Western Canadian rockers who have recently collaborated with industry heavyweight Michael Wagener and producer Ryan Andersen to compose their self-titled debut album and deliver their first single, Release Me. The album and first single is proving to be highly anticipated but don’t fret all of you super fans out there…drumroll please…the album is scheduled for release on September 14!

An interesting dynamic to this up and coming band, is their sense of charity and community. They have a simple goal in creating a solid album with some great musicians and trying to make a positive impact. Earlier this year,  Eldebrock has reached out globally by partnering with the International Union Against Cancer (UICC), an organization dedicated to the global prevention and control of cancer. The band will commit $1 per album sold (or $.10 per song sold) to support the UICC’s fight through their “World War on Cancer” campaign. Not only are they talented, but they have good purpose and warm hearts as well.

“Eldebrock is clearing a path alongside other current top Canadian rock bands Nickelback, Three Days Grace, and Theory of a Deadman.”

“This album is very much looking forward in time, creating its own niche, very solid musicianship, great songs, great performance and great sound.” — Michael Wagener

“Eldebrock’s sound is a combination of layered guitars and vocal harmonies in the style of Alice in Chains, driving rhythm a’ la Godsmack and lead guitar influenced by Slash and Zakk Wylde.” –Del

Visit Eldebrock’s website at www.eldebrock.net and sign up to the Eldebrock Chronicle newsletter to be among the first to receive a FREE download of Eldebrock’s debut single Release Me and the latest news from the band.

A Festival at its Finest

Posted by Levine Communications Office on July 19, 2010

What does a good film festival actually consist of?

Well, first we can start with what a film festival is…According to Wikipedia, a film festival is an “organized, extended presentation of films in one or more movie theaters or screening venues, usually in a single locality”. Alright, that seems simple enough, but what makes it one of high-quality?

Is it the location?

Is it the important people who attend? Are there a lot of celebrities?

Is it the films that are shown?

Is it the after-parties?

Is it press attendance?

Is it good advertisement?

Is it the size of the festival?

Is it the history of it?

Is it the amount of years it has gone on?

What exactly is it?

Well, let us ask you a somewhat random question…what do Michael Moore and Michigan have in common? The Traverse City Film Festival (which we can argue is an actually good film festival)

The Traverse City Film Festival seems reminiscent of how Sundance was brought to fruition, for all the right reasons, showing truly independent films, teaching future filmmakers, and giving films that might otherwise not receive large distribution an opportunity to be seen. Traverse City has an estimated population of 142,316 and last year more than 96,000 admissions were tallied for the five-day Traverse City Film Festival in only its fifth year. The Traverse City Film Festival was established by Michael Moore as a charitable, educational, nonprofit organization committed to showing “just great movies”. For those of you who may not be familiar with  Michael Moore, he is known as an American filmmaker, author, and liberal political commentator. He has also directed and produced four of the top nine highest-grossing documentaries of all time.

With 2010 being the 6th annual Traverse City Film Festival, the board hopes to reach out to even more people and maintain its goal in helping to save one of America’s few indigenous art forms–the cinema. As previously mentioned, LCO Client and Academy Award Winning Michael Moore is the creator of the Traverse City Film Festival. Also sitting on the board is Academy Award winning director, Emmy Award and two-time Golden Globe Award winning actress Christine Lahti.

The 2010 festival is will take place July 27-August 1 in Traverse City, Michigan. Tickets are on sale now and the 2010 Festival Guide is also available online at www.traversecityfilmfest.org. And if you can’t make it this year, the 2011 date is already set so you can plan ahead and get there!
