LCO has had hundreds of interns come through its doors and graduate from the program. Many of these interns go on to do big things in their careers and take the lessons they’ve learned from Michael Levine and LCO with them. One of these past interns is Donald Morrison. Morrison works for KFI 640am News as an Anchor/Editor/Medical Reporter.
Donald was an intern back in 2001 on Michael Levine’s radio show. The internship allowed Donald to “gain the knowledge of how a radio show is put together as well as how to go about booking guests and promoting a show”. Donald noted that he had always liked TV/radio news broadcasting as well as sports. “I originally wanted to be a play-by-play sports announcer and felt working in TV or radio would help me accomplish that. I ended up working in the news and enjoyed it and stuck with it”.
Donald has covered a lot of breaking news stories, so we had to ask him about the strangest story he had covered. “The strangest thing that’s happened to me is when I called a porn director to ask him to comment on his recent federal indictment. It turned out he had no idea he was indicted. There was also an earthquake happening as soon as one my newscasts started. I had to inform everyone they were feeling a quake.” Though dishing out news of indictments and announcing earthquakes were among Donald’s craziest stories, he said however, the most significant story that he had covered was “…election of President Obama. It was a historic election that will be in the annals of American history.”
Reflecting on his days as an intern, “one thing I’ll always remember about LCO is watching Michael deal with interns and employees. I felt his demanding yet gentle style can really get the most out of people and help them realize their full potential.” Donald also said that the best experience he had while interning was getting to meet Mickey Dolenz from the Monkees and Charles Manson prosecutor, Vincen Bugliosi.
Morrison uses the PR skills he learned in his LCO days to for instance by, “promoting stories using Twitter.” He said also, “PR is about enticing and trying to generate interest. I do that through writing creative leads to stories so listeners will be interested. He continued on to note that “PR helps you learn the importance of packaging and imaging. this is important when it comes to presenting news. You have to do it in a way that will catch people’s attention through creative writing and delivery.”
LCO obviously utilizes the media daily, so we asked Donald about the importance and relevance of radio. “Radio is the absolute fastest way to disseminate information. There is no delay through web servers or computers. There’s no camera man and producing booth crew to wait on. A push of a button is all that’s needed to tell people what’s happening.
As a successful past intern we asked Donald to divulge some of the best advice he had received, he stated that working hard is of utmost importance, “it’s simple but no one gets ahead slacking off.”
As a final note, we asked who Donald would like to interview if he could choose anyone, “If I had to pick someone who’s living then it would be Gore Vidal. If it’d be anyone in history then it’d be Abraham Lincoln.

If you ask psychic and spiritual adviserRon Bard, real-life exorcisms aren’t too far from those depicted in movies like The Exorcist and newly released film, The Last Exorcism.
From: The Last Exorcism
In an August 29th article with The New York Daily News regarding the similarities between a movie exorcism and a real-life exorcism, Ron Bard noted, “The first ‘Exorcist’ movie with Linda Blair is actually not too far from the truth” … “The head-spinning is a little much,” adds Bard. “But I’ve seen a lot of the things that are characteristic of (spirit) possession”. In the article Mr. Bard goes on to tell the story of the first time he accompanied his mother, former psychic, Yolana Bard to do an exorcism at the home of a famous Hollywood socialite:
“As soon as I walked in, all of a sudden she was speaking in tongues – in this case, fluent German – and she was saying, ‘I’m going to kill you,’” recalls Bard.
“Lines started appearing on her hands and she was bleeding. And her body had become jaundiced and twisted, like she had cerebral palsy.”
Bard Continues: “My first exorcism still scares the crap out of me”. “Spirits could get really violent, and when you’ve got someone who can whup your a–, it’s scary.”
The scene Bard describes sounds as if it could have been torn straight from the pages of Hollywood terror flick, instead it is one of many exorcisms Ron has attended and assisted in.

CNN Entertainment Reporter, Alan Duke, came by to speak to the office today, Friday, August 27. The entire office was so honored to have him here and was completely captivated by what he had to say.
He began by telling us all a little bit about himself. If you were to ask Alan when he was still a student what he wanted to be when he grew up, “journalist” would not have crossed his mind. He actually had planned to go into politics, mostly studying political science in school. Over the years, Alan has developed an infinite amount of skills and worked in several fields in addition to journalism, including publicity.
LCO Founder, Michael Levine asked him to give some insight to the interns present on what he, as a journalist, feels are qualities of a good publicist. Alan tells the interns that if they want to be a successful publicist, they must always call after sending an email rather than bombarding a journalist with tons of emails. A good publicist knows how to treat people right and they always treasure their relationships. Alan also states that it is beneficial for a publicist to know history, whether it be the history of their client or the history of the industry.
As we continued to listen to Alan, we picked up a few other helpful tips:
When you call someone, always ask them if it is a good time to talk.
Don’t expect a journalist or reporter to remember to call you back.
A journalist would rather get a phone call on their cell phone than a bunch of emails.
Always know what you are talking about.
Gain as many skills as you can.
When introducing yourself to someone, talk about something interesting.
Become something.
The most important thing we took away from Alan’s words was to “never just do one thing in your life”. Achieve what you want to achieve and never wait to be hired to do something.
Thank you so much Alan for taking the time to come see us today! We appreciate all that you said and hope to see you again soon.
Tyra Banks once said, “I love the confidence that makeup gives me”. Is this how you feel too? Makeup can really help tone, protect, and moisturize your skin. According to beauty expert and LCO Client Nina Sutton, this is the key to having beautiful skin. Who wouldn’t want to have fresh, luminescent skin? And if confidence comes along with it then its all the better. Nina provides us with some simple beauty tips to achieve that fresh glow for the skin.
Let’s start with the basics. Whether you don’t like to wear a lot of makeup or just have no time in the morning while rushing out the door, just make it a point to use tinted moisturizer with SPF protection. This product alone accomplishes Nina’s beautiful skin trifecta–protection, moisture, and an even skin tone.
Another must-have if you are running out the door is a quick coat of mascara.
Blush is pretty simple too. Nina suggests a cream blush to be applied to the apple of your cheeks. One of her favorites is Benetint from Benefit Cosmetics.
Now, concealers may be a little bit trickier. They need to be creamy and also match your skin tone. We have all seen the women who look like raccoons because their concealer is too light…we don’t want that! Nina prefers the yellow-based concealers because they minimize darkness but she suggests just taking a trip to the makeup counter and trying out different shades until you find the perfect one for your skin.
Bronzer is also a great product to utilize. It evens out those summer tans and can add some color during our paler months in winter. For summer, Nina recommends a “tawny brown” applied all over to even out tones. However, for fall and winter she advises looking for a mosaic product, such as the Avon Sunset Glow Bronzer, that consists of peaches and pinks.
Lastly, she tells us how to beautify our eyes. First thing is first–eyebrows. Nina tells us that eyebrows are the #1 thing that can change your face. To maintain a properly shaped brow, first get them done by a professional and then continue to groom them on your own. After the perfect brow, comes the eye shadow to really make those eyes pop. This year’s trend for shadow palettes are browns and greys, a much softer trend than last year’s smoky eye.
Give these tips and products a try! Tell us about your beautiful skin…We would love to hear your own beauty secrets as well.

The internship program at LCO is a great opportunity to learn the ins-and-outs of the PR world. The internship is designed to show interns an introduction to PR skills, such as media research, event management, media pitching, and press release writing.
