Fighting for the Dream

Posted by Levine Communications Office on October 12, 2010

LCO would like to remind you that Aura Imbarus released her book that we had previously mentioned, “Out Of The Transylvania Night” this past month.  A Little about Aura, she has a very unique story and knows what it means to make her dreams come true. Aura was willing to achieve the “American Dream” at all costs.

Aura grew up in a country that chose to persecute its workers rather than celebrate them. Aura was raised in Transylvania, at a time when no one dared to be themselves, and family members disappeared during the night-as though actual Vampires had taken them. With a communist dictator in control Aura’s homeland was a place of fear and persecution for its citizens.

Despite all, Aura dared “at the cost of her life” to standout, an individualist, an overachiever, a rebel, a scholar, and proud heiress to land and wealth that had been confiscated by the communists, Aura waged small wars every day.

“Everyday has the potential of a lifetime”

Christmas shopping on December 21, 1989, Aura, her parents, and hundreds of shoppers drew sudden sniper fire as Romania descended into the violence of a revolution that challenged one of the most draconian regimes in the Soviet bloc. A grisly execution that rocked the world led to five harrowing days of bloody chaos as Aura and her family struggled to survive.  But, the new regime remained corrupt and controlling.

Though Aura fell in love and carved out a life envied by other Romanians, a fierce sense of independence made her yearn for something more.

What did her success and love mean without freedom?! And, so began Aura’s love/ hate relationship with Los Angeles and herself.

Aura and Michael, her newlywed husband, fled a homeland still in chaos. With only $400, two pieces of luggage, and a powerful dream, they settled in Los Angeles in 1997.

No strangers to sacrifice and willing or hard work, the couple soon bought a home, own BMWs and travel the world—only to find that a life of extravagance strain their marriage more severely than their years of struggle. The stock market crashed, and the couple lost all of their savings. The house fell into foreclosure, and a robbery targeted her precious family heirlooms. Aura’s beloved mother is diagnosed with terminal cancer. Under the strain, the couple divorce.

But Aura soon realizes that even in the darkest days of her experiences in Transylvania, she had come through it; she had found her way to the light. And so their love story did live on. Their memories of living in a country at war and of the darkest days of their horrendous circumstances would reunite them, this time with a better understanding of themselves—and of the personal freedoms they would, or wouldn’t, give up in exchange for their love.

5 Tips for Youthful Hands

Posted by Levine Communications Office on October 10, 2010

LCO Client and Beauty Expert, Nina Sutton is always sharing the best tips when it comes to a woman’s outer appearance. Recently as the beauty expert for www.sheknows.com, Nina provided 5 helpful tips on making sure you keep your hands looking youthful. No one will know how old you are after applying some of these tricks and your hands alone will portray a younger age than you actually are.

1. Exfoliate Your Hands

Just as you exfoliate the skin on your face, you need to remove the top layer of skin on your hands to reveal the fresh skin underneath. At home, you can use microdermabrasion crystals or even 1 teaspoon of sugar combined with coconut oil. While these treatments will not remove brown spots, they will leave your skin looking smoother and softer. The key is to exfoliate on a regular basis.

2. Moisturize

If you find a moisturizer with an SPF that you love, use it all the time. This way you are replacing moisture and protecting your hands.  Sun exposure damages collagen- which is the building block of our skin.

3. Pamper Your Hands

Whenever you do the dishes, or expose your hands to a lot of water, be sure to wear gloves. Try using a thick cream like Aquaphor or any oil like olive oil or coconut oil under your gloves for a moisture treatment. Also, if you use anti-oxidant serums on your face, you can use those on your hands as well. Apply these serums at night before moisturizer and during the day before your SPF. You can even use the same hydrating masks on your hands that you use on your face.

4. Try Lasers for Brown Spots and Loose Skin

Age spots or brown spots are a tell-tale sign of aging. To remove brown spots, the best treatments are lasers.  Skin-tightening treatments help to stimulate collagen production, resulting in thicker skin.

5. Banish Veins

As your skin thins, veins in your hands can appear to “bulge” out. In scelortherapy, a mild irritant is injected into your veins and blocks the blood supply.  Although this treatment does not have a lot of downtime, it can take a few weeks to see the full results. This treatment is best for small, superficial veins. For larger veins, a better treatment is to plump the skin around the vein by injecting fat into the hand, thereby creating an even illusion. To plump the skin, doctors use either your own fat (extracted from your thigh or buttocks) or Restylane.

Support the Heston Stamp Petition

Posted by Levine Communications Office on October 7, 2010

Charlton Heston, an icon of epic proportions, Academy Award-winning actor, philanthropist and political activist, could soon be featured on a US postage stamp. Starting today, when Heston would have turned 87 years old, longtime publicist Michael Levine, founder of LCO – Levine Communications Office, is organizing a national petition effort to commemorate the life of one of Hollywood’s greatest leading men.

The petition will raise awareness nationally to convince the Citizen Stamp Advisory Commission that Heston deserves to be placed on a postage stamp. Fans throughout the country are invited to send an email, letter and/or sign the petition in support of the effort to successfully implement this historic Hollywood figure into the US postal stamp collection.

“If Hollywood had a Mount Rushmore, his face would be on it,” said Levine, “A postage stamp would be the next best thing.”

Heston is one of the most dedicated and talented actors of our time.  His films are highly regarded as some of the most successful movies in motion picture history. Heston earned two Academy Awards, a Golden Globe Award, three Emmy Award nominations and the Kennedy Center Honors: Lifetime Achievement Award. As a respected actor he was a six-time president of the Screen Actors Guild and president of the American Film Institute. In 2003, Heston received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Bush. In honor of Heston’s wide-range success that exceeded beyond his Hollywood career, Heston is a more-than-deserving figure to be featured on a US postage stamp.  To sign the petition and to learn more about the Charlton Heston stamp petition visit (www.CharltonHestonStamp.com).
