Five Sure Ways To End Up With a Career You Hate

Posted by Levine Communications Office on January 9, 2011

Most people in society end up settling with a job that they despise just because it’s convenient at the moment.  Also, most humans tend to continue to live their life day by day instead of thinking about their future and allowing themselves to be in a job that makes them happy. In order to prevent yourself from being at a job you hate, here is a list of excuses one tends to make to know if you’re leading to that unhappy direction.

1.  “But I’m good at this.”– Just because you’ve acquired great skills at a task, doesn’t mean you like to do it. It feels convenient and great at first, but after a while it gets old, you wear yourself out and realize you’re not happy. Therefore, don’t dedicate your time at something just because you’re good at it, you should become selective.

2. “But I need the money”– This is an excuse most people have when they end up at a job to discover that although they’re making a lot of money, they’re not internally happy. Therefore, they find themselves feeling miserable. Overall, money isn’t everything, it helps but it fades eventually and it should never be the only reason you have that career.

3. “Things will get better”– If you’re already at a career that’s already making you feel miserable, there’s no point to getting your hopes up by thinking it will progress. Do what you can do to change the situation, but if it doesn’t get better drastically, you should move on. Don’t get caught up just because you’ve invested your time.

4. ” I’m Afraid”– Many people can relate to this, and the fear of the unknown can be intimidating. But you must be true to yourself, if you don’t take action by moving forward, you’re always going to wonder what would’ve happened. Therefore, you don’t want to live with regrets, when you do move forward, you’ll be glad to know that you at least tried.

5. ” Nothing else would be any better”- This is a sure way, to know that you’re unsatisfied with your job. But don’t ever believe you’re stuck and accept it for the way it is. You must be optimistic and find that there are ways to find happiness at work. If you’re determined, you will find your way out of the state of unhappiness.

I wish you could shout this to every kid in high school who is already being shoved to investigate careers and is also being asked, “What do you want to do the rest of your life?”
