Dedication in 86400 by Lavaille Lavette

Posted by Levine Communications Office on April 28, 2011

Here is my favorite pick from Lavaille Lavette’s 86400 Manage Your Purpose to Make Every Second of Each Day Count about dedication.

“Regardless of your past, you have a decision to make regarding your commitment to dedication. The decision you make will directly affect your ability to love your life on purpose. Dedication provides you with a drive to move forward amid challenges and setbacks. Dedication gives you that nudge to get up early because your ultimate goal demands it. Dedication helps you hold your tongue when people try to limit you with their words. Dedication enables you to see possibilities that others don’t yet see. Dedication gives you the fire to demand your seat at the table when others try to ignore or belittle your cause. Dedication is critical for a purpose-focused life; it propels you forward against forces that would otherwise hold you back. Dedication took my parents from the cotton fields of Louisiana to worlds that are still expanding because of the many lives they touched.”

Why Employers Need to Screen out ‘Toxic’ Job Candidates

Posted by Levine Communications Office on April 28, 2011

In the article, Shawn Achor, a Harvard researcher, founder and CEO of Good Think Inc. and an expert in the field of positive psychology, was interviewed by Don Tennant.

Shawn Achor  mentions that not enough companies are making an attempt to screen out negative, pessimistic, unhappy people in the hiring process and the problem is that most employers are overlooking what matters most – optimistic. He assumes that most employers are more likely to hire someone with a positive attitude than someone with negative attitude, but the issue companies need to be aware of,  is that in interviews, job candidates try to act more positive than they really are.

Lastly, he mentions the seven principles of positive psychology that he wrote about in his book The Happiness Advantage: The Seven Principles of Positive Psychology That Fuel Success and Performance at Work.

  • The Happiness Advantage.
  • The Fulcrum and the Lever.
  • The Tetris Effect.
  • Falling Up.
  • The Zorro Circle.
  • The Twenty Second Rule.
  • Social Investment.
