Retiring UFC star Tito Ortiz anticipates ‘free life’

The veteran UFC light heavyweight doesn’t know why he chose to memorialize that particular fight, which co-headlined UFC 59 in April 2006, over 15 other octagon fights Ortiz had at the time, other than the buzz of stealing Griffin’s thunder when he won a split decision. If nothing else, it was a moment of tremendous pride for Ortiz.
It’s fitting, then, that Griffin’s mug is there as Ortiz trains for the final fight of his career. After 26 appearances in UFC, more than any other fighter in the promotion’s history, Ortiz (16-10-1 MMA, 15-10-1 UFC) is calling it quits after No. 27, a rubber match with Griffin (18-7, 9-5) in the co-main event of UFC 148, which airs Saturday on pay-per-view from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
