5 Tips for Youthful Hands

Posted by Levine Communications Office on October 10, 2010

LCO Client and Beauty Expert, Nina Sutton is always sharing the best tips when it comes to a woman’s outer appearance. Recently as the beauty expert for www.sheknows.com, Nina provided 5 helpful tips on making sure you keep your hands looking youthful. No one will know how old you are after applying some of these tricks and your hands alone will portray a younger age than you actually are.

1. Exfoliate Your Hands

Just as you exfoliate the skin on your face, you need to remove the top layer of skin on your hands to reveal the fresh skin underneath. At home, you can use microdermabrasion crystals or even 1 teaspoon of sugar combined with coconut oil. While these treatments will not remove brown spots, they will leave your skin looking smoother and softer. The key is to exfoliate on a regular basis.

2. Moisturize

If you find a moisturizer with an SPF that you love, use it all the time. This way you are replacing moisture and protecting your hands.  Sun exposure damages collagen- which is the building block of our skin.

3. Pamper Your Hands

Whenever you do the dishes, or expose your hands to a lot of water, be sure to wear gloves. Try using a thick cream like Aquaphor or any oil like olive oil or coconut oil under your gloves for a moisture treatment. Also, if you use anti-oxidant serums on your face, you can use those on your hands as well. Apply these serums at night before moisturizer and during the day before your SPF. You can even use the same hydrating masks on your hands that you use on your face.

4. Try Lasers for Brown Spots and Loose Skin

Age spots or brown spots are a tell-tale sign of aging. To remove brown spots, the best treatments are lasers.  Skin-tightening treatments help to stimulate collagen production, resulting in thicker skin.

5. Banish Veins

As your skin thins, veins in your hands can appear to “bulge” out. In scelortherapy, a mild irritant is injected into your veins and blocks the blood supply.  Although this treatment does not have a lot of downtime, it can take a few weeks to see the full results. This treatment is best for small, superficial veins. For larger veins, a better treatment is to plump the skin around the vein by injecting fat into the hand, thereby creating an even illusion. To plump the skin, doctors use either your own fat (extracted from your thigh or buttocks) or Restylane.

Basic Beauty Tips From Nina Sutton

Posted by Levine Communications Office on August 27, 2010

Tyra Banks once said, “I love the confidence that makeup gives me”.  Is this how you feel too? Makeup can really help tone, protect, and moisturize your skin. According to beauty expert and LCO Client Nina Sutton, this is the key to having beautiful skin. Who wouldn’t want to have fresh, luminescent skin? And if confidence comes along with it then its all the better. Nina provides us with some simple beauty tips to achieve that fresh glow for the skin.

  • Let’s start with the basics. Whether you don’t like to wear a lot of makeup or just have no time in the morning while rushing out the door, just make it a point to use tinted moisturizer with SPF protection. This product alone accomplishes Nina’s beautiful skin trifecta–protection, moisture, and an even skin tone.
  • Another must-have if you are running out the door is a quick coat of mascara.
  • Blush is pretty simple too. Nina suggests a cream blush to be applied to the apple of your cheeks. One of her favorites is Benetint from Benefit Cosmetics.
  • Now, concealers may be a little bit trickier. They need to be creamy and also match your skin tone. We have all seen the women who look like raccoons because their concealer is too light…we don’t want that! Nina prefers the yellow-based concealers because they minimize darkness but she suggests just taking a trip to the makeup counter and trying out different shades until you find the perfect one for your skin.
  • Bronzer is also a great product to utilize. It evens out those summer tans and can add some color during our paler months in winter. For summer, Nina recommends a “tawny brown” applied all over to even out tones. However, for fall and winter she advises looking for a mosaic product, such as the Avon Sunset Glow Bronzer, that consists of peaches and pinks.
  • Lastly, she tells us how to beautify our eyes. First thing is first–eyebrows. Nina tells us that eyebrows are the #1 thing that can change your face. To maintain a properly shaped brow, first get them done by a professional and then continue to groom them on your own. After the perfect brow, comes the eye shadow to really make those eyes pop. This year’s trend for shadow palettes are browns and greys, a much softer trend than last year’s smoky eye.

Give these tips and products a try! Tell us about your beautiful skin…We would love to hear your own beauty secrets as well.

Back-To-School Beauty For Moms

Posted by Levine Communications Office on August 16, 2010

Kids aren’t the only ones that need to prepare for going back to school in these next couple weeks, moms do too! After long days outside this summer, shopping for school supplies, and just doing the day-to-day mom duties, moms need to take a little extra time for themselves to get their faces and bodies looking great for the “hug’n’go lane”. Summer can really take a toll on your outside appearance. Luckily we have a fabulously chic mom like LCO Client, Nina Sutton to help us out. TV host, beauty expert, and author of The Chic Mom’s Guide to Feeling Fabulous Nina Sutton provides some head-to-toe tips to make a Mom fabulous again now that the kids are going back to school and have some time for yourself.

FACE CARE: Your face is the first thing people see. The key to reversing the damage done by summer weather is to exfoliate. Depending on your budget, Nina recommends a microdermabrasion from a dermatologist or “Olay Regenerist Microdermabrasion and Peel Kit” from Oil of Olay. Some at-home remedies include Pepto-Bismol (if you can stand the smell!) all over your face or crushed up aspirin mixed with water.

HAIR CARE: After a summer under the sun, your hair probably needs a little bit of extra attention. There are four simple things that can be done to get those pre-summer locks back in action: (1) get a trim, (2) do a deep conditioning treatment such as putting olive oil in your hair for 10 minutes and rinsing, (3) use a DARK purple shampoo to bring back the color you want, and (4) add that shine back to your hair with either a cellophane treatment or a “glaze” product from the drugstore.

HAIRSTYLES: Add a little pizzazz to that ponytail! The ponytail is the staple hairstyle for those with hair long enough. Nina suggests adding a jeweled headband or changing your part. Nina also recommends not washing your hair because dry shampoo adds volume and will definitely give you “sexy bombshell hair”. An at-home remedy for dry shampoo is to sprinkle 1 teaspoon of baby powder mixed with about 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda and brush it through.

HAND CARE: Our hands really show our age, that’s why it’s important to exfoliate. Try squeezing lemon juice into your hands and adding a teaspoon of sugar. Another at-home treatment from Nina is to simply rub olive oil on your hands–it moisturizes your skin and it’s cheap!

“Moms can go from runway to mom-way by using common sense in choosing which trends to take and which to leave to the single gal with all the time in the world. Make it work for your life and you’ll feel better head to toe!” –Nina Sutton
